In-tro-du-cing Rocco, aka Rock Star...... Rocco is a tall, dark & handsome black Lab mix that was born in June of 2008. He weighs approximately 80 lbs, is fully vaccinated and he's neutered. Rocco has also faithfully been taking monthly heartworm preventative since he was just 3 months old. This boy's been well cared for and well loved for the long haul.
Rocco is energetic and quite athletic. He enjoys all of his toys, but mostly his ball. He LOVES a good game of fetch..... for as long as your arm will hold out!!! He waits and watches, never taking his eyes off you as you prepare to throw his ball. But once his ball leaves your hand, then he's off like a rocket to be the first one to get to it, only to repeat the scenario time and time again. Retrieving, most assuredly, is one of his favorite things. Rocco loves napping in the sunshine, wrestling with this brothers and pals, hugs from his foster parents and velveeta cheese stuffed in his bone. He has a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. Dogs are great like that. Rocco is comfortable using a doggie door and enjoys the freedom of going in and out as he pleases, but he sleeps inside with his foster family every night.
Rocco would do best in a family with at least one other dog, especially if that dog were one of his brothers. You see, Rocco was adopted and left Project Pawz for the bright lights of the big city back in May of 2010. He loved his new family, especially since he had 2 children to play with. That's every dog's dream, right??? But what Rocco missed was the companionship of his brothers. Unfortunately, with a failing economy, adoptions have just about come to a standstill. As a result, Rocco and his brothers have been in foster care TOGETHER for quite a long time.... playing together, eating together, sleeping together.... a true BAND OF BROTHERS, so to speak. Even though Rocco was treated like a king by his adoptive family, he just couldn't bear the separation from his pack. His weight loss soon revealed how much he was grieving the loss of his fellow canines. After a couple of months, Rocco's new family did the best thing for Rocco and returned him to Project Pawz. Turns out, they were exactly right with their assessment of Rocco's depression. Once returned to his pack, Rocco's appetite increased and he began to feel like his old self again. We slowly saw the light return to Rocco's eyes when he rejoined his "brotherhood". Rocco's reaction to the separation from his littermates took us quite by surprise. We've waited months to even re-introduce Rocco into the adoption pool, and we've adjusted his adoption requirements based on what we've learned from this experience. Rocco's happiness, as with every other foster we have, is always of utmost importance to us here at Project Pawz. We live and learn.

HANDSOME HANK is what we call him around here, and we sure think his name suits him!! Hank was born in June of 2008, so he's full grown now and weighs about 72 lbs. He's current on his vaccinations, neutered, and has been taking monthly heartworm preventative since he was 3 months old. Hank and his siblings were rescued as tiny pups during the hot Texas summer with temperatures reaching 106 degrees. They were all brought to safety and have been in foster care awaiting adoption ever since. A poor economy has slowed adoption rates nationwide, but Hank's still hopeful.... he knows his day will come.
Hank is a very striking boy. He's black with beautiful white stockings on his front and back feet. He also has a gorgeous white blaze on his chin and chest, and white on the very tip of his always wagging tail!! Everywhere we go, people comment on his rugged good looks... perhaps he's the George Clooney of the dog world.
Hank is still a young dog that's ready to make his mark on the world. He's quite smart and soooo eager to please. Hank enjoys playing chase with his brothers and retrieving his favorite ball. In the afternoons, Hank and his brothers enjoy a leisurely game of good old fashioned "fetch". One toss of the ball and they're all running to see who can get to it first. When Hank gets the ball, he very quickly brings it back to you in hopes that you'll continue to toss it for them. He seems to never tire of the competition, however he's always a good sport. Hank also enjoys going for walks and taking in the view. Be careful though, he's quite strong!! Hank uses a doggie door and enjoys the freedom of being both inside and outside. He's used to sleeping in his crate at night, along with his favorite bone stuffed with velveeta cheese. Hank gets along great with people of all ages and other dogs, so he's hopeful that one day he'll finally get that FOREVER HOME he so deserves!!

Dakota was born in June of 2008 and was one of a large litter of mostly boys. He weighs about 70 lbs, is completely vaccinated and he's neutered. He's also been taking monthly heartworm preventative since he was 3 months old. Dakota has the most adorable personality ever!!! With so much charm and good looks, he's sure to catch someone's eye.... If only it would happen soon. You see, Dakota has been in foster care since he was just under 6 weeks old. A slow economy coupled with the fact that he's a "big, black dog" have all worked against Dakota and his brothers. Take a few minutes to google "big black dog syndrome" and learn the plight of these often overlooked dogs. The statistics of black dogs being euthanized in shelters across America are staggering. Black dogs just don't get adopted, plain and simple.
Dakota is quite the scholar. He learns things quickly and makes sure the rest of us stick to the routine. He mastered the doggie door in an instant and helped us teach everybody else how to use it. He loves it because he really enjoys playing in the backyard, but comes back inside when he's ready for a nap or a treat. He loves to go for walks and meet new people. Dakota sleeps in his crate at night and likes to have his bone in there with him too, especially if it has a little velveeta cheese in it!! To say that Dakota is the lively one of the bunch may be an understatement. As a pup, he'd wait until everyone else was settled in for a nap and then he'd decide to march on top of the dog pile and methodically choose whose ears to pull or whose tail to tug. It was simply sport to him!! And rest assured, he still has that same playful nature. Dakota is a happy dog and loves the company of people of all ages and also other dogs. If you're looking for a shy dog, Dakota's not for you. But if you want a playful, smart and devoted friend, he's a great choice. Dakota won't disappoint!

The phrase "To know him is to love him" must have been referring to JoJo... EVERYBODY LOVES JOJO!! He's very charming and charismatic, and just has a way of winning people over. Personally, I think it's his eyes. They'll melt your heart if you're not careful.
JoJo has quite a story for such a young man... He's been bounced around from home to home somewhat like a gypsy, so it would serve JoJo well to have a little stability in his life and land a home where he can settle in FOREVER!! JoJo arrived at the animal shelter when he was a puppy. He was adopted by a trucker and got to travel coast to coast with his new dad. Well, life on the road got a bit boring for JoJo after a while, so he began to stay home quite a bit more. His mom worked long hours and his four legged sisters thought he was rather annoying because he liked to play a lot more than they did. After all, they were much more mature and "playing" was for unsophisticated puppies. JoJo was bored again, so he moved back to the animal shelter in search of a new home. Since JoJo is so special, he waited patiently for just the right family to be approved to take him home. This time, he had small kiddos to play with. Hot dog!! This seemed like the perfect match for JoJo, however JoJo was left to spend long hours alone while his new mom was at work and his new human siblings were gone as well. That's just no way to live for a social guy like JoJo. He LOVES people and craves companionship. He escaped from his yard through a hole under the fence on several occasions, only to be found socializing with children in surrounding neighborhoods.... Once he was even found visiting the children at the local YMCA!! The kids were playing with JoJo and hanging all over him.... That big ol' hearty tail was wagging feverishly and JoJo was in heaven!! Simply said, JoJo needs his people.
JoJo is about a year old, neutered and taking heartworm preventative. He would do best with an active family since he prefers to be busy. Being left alone for hours on end isn't ideal for JoJo. If boredom sets in, he'll hit the road. AND he'll keep on traveling until he finds someone to talk to. He's super duper smart and needs to be engaged in activity. It took him about 3 seconds to figure out the latch on the fence at a temporary foster home.... and out he walked (quite proud of himself I might add). Where was he headed? To do some socializing, we're sure. JoJo gets along with most other dogs, as he has several dogs of various sizes in his foster home. On occasion, JoJo's "exuberance" might annoy one of our older, less active dogs, so a younger canine counterpart would be a great fit for JoJo. On any given day, it's endless playing, wrestling, and ball chasing for our JoJo. He has a zest for life that will inspire you. And who doesn't need a little inspiration, right???
